About the Author
ROBERT W. WEISBERG, PhD, is Professor of Psychology and Director of the Brain, Behavior, and Cognition Cluster in the Psychology Department at Temple University. A cognitive psychologist, Dr. Weisberg's area of interest is creative thinking, the cognitive processes involved in the intentional production of novelty: solutions to problems, works of art, scientific theories, and inventions.
LAURETTA M. REEVES, PhD, teaches at The University of Texas at Austin. Her research interests span both cognitive psychology—including the development of expertise in mathematical problem solving, use of metaphor in literature, and cognitive development—and the lexical acquisition and role of animacy in categorical inference in children.

Well-written, accessible text for students and non-students

This textbook is scientifically adept, and combines up-to-date research in cognitive science and neuroscience with historical research on how psychologists first became interested in studying certain topics (such as imagery and tip-of-the-tongue states). It takes a novel approach to cognition--it assumes that all cognitive processes are heavily dependent on memory and what we have already learned. Whereas most cognitive psychology texts start with how information comes into the system--through visual processing then attention then memory, the authors cogently make the point that *all* cognition is filtered through prior experience. For instance, how could one "recognize" a table, or a dog, without already having stored information about tables or dogs in memory (to match up the new table to a stored representation)?
The book is engagingly written, with both a multitude of examples and descriptions of experiments to further one's knowledge of cognition and how people process information. Highly recommended.

Enlightening and humorous

Cognition: From Memory to Creativity was an excellent companion to any Intro Cognition class. It proved essential to understanding concepts while elucidating with numerous examples. Each theory also listed previous experimenters' works and laid a groundwork to build from. Overall a great choice for the class and an excellently structured/well-written textbook overall. This is the kind of textbook you actually want to keep.

Very Good Book

I personally found this book very explanatory and beneficial to my learning. The experiments and experimenters are easy to locate because of the detailed subject index along with other topics. Ideas are explained more than once and in different ways to ensure comprehension. Overall i recommend this book to anybody interested in Cognitive Psychology.
