About the Author
Peter Sloterdijk (b. 1947) is one of the best known and widely read German intellectuals writing today. His 1983 publication of "Critique of Cynical Reason" (published in English in 1988) became the best-selling German book of philosophy since World War II. He became president of the State Academy of Design at the Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe in 2001. He has been cohost of a discussion program, "Das Philosophische Quartett" (Philosophical Quartet) on German television since 2002.

Dr. Elkarmi worked in government, para-government, and private sectors for 25 years in Jordan and 9 years abroad (Kuwait and USA). He holds a Doctor of Engineering degree from Texas A&M University, 1981. Dr. Elkarmi is a registered "Expert" engineer with the Jordan Engineers Association, a Senior Member of IEEE, and a Chartered Engineer with IEE. Moreover, he is a member of the Institute of Management Consultants (IMC) and holds a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) title. Dr. Elkarmi, in addition to teaching full-time, conducts training in Jordan and abroad in strategic planning and business planning, project evaluation, performance improvement, start-up businesses, professional management consulting, electrical system development, tariff studies and investment planning, load research, energy and demand forecasting, demand side management, energy efficiency, energy conservation, environmental impact assessment, process optimization, and new product development. He also provides consultation in business development, feasibility studies, organizational re-engineering, business turnaround, project appraisal, and investment assessment. Dr.Elkarmi served as director for MMIS Management Consultants; General Manager of Arab Development for Food Industries - Free Zone - Zarka; Managing Director, Quality Consultancy Company (QCC); Director, Industry Sector and Mineral Resources at the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST); Director, Energy Sector Technologies at the Higher Council for Science and Technology; Acting General Manager (Part-time) for Palestine Industrial Investment Company (PIIC) in Nablus - Palestine; and Director of Planning at the Jordan Electricity Authority. Dr. Elkarmi worked as the Director of "IRADA," which is a project sponsored by the Ministry of Planning for assisting entrepreneurs in establishing their businesses, including the preparation of feasibility studies, business plans, request for financing, and registration procedures.

It's a book of interviews

Informative interviews. Offers a great deal of insight into the minds of the creators of some of the best-known (and several under-the-radar) video games of the "early days." If you're interested in the history of video game design, then it's worth reading. If you're not interested, then pass on it. Calling it "rock bottom" is a slap in the face-- really the only reason I wrote my review. It's not amazing, nor is it terrible. It would be an interesting documentary and was an enjoyable read for me.

A witness to the Masters

This book is a unique and entertaining look at what went on behind the scenes of many 80s and 90s game companies, obtained via interviews with famous game designers/programmers and the not-so-famous-but-impactful-ones.

To me, the most entertaining interviews weren't with known celebrities like John Romero or Brian Fargo, but with the ones who did more of the crucial programming work behind the scenes, such as the person nicknamed "Burger". How that nickname was obtained is a story both funny and kind of disgusting - you should buy the book.

These people were/are the bold explorers of virtual frontiers and shapers of a new expressive medium. They created games, not movies with interactive elements. In the opinion of this observer, much of their insight has been ignored during the past decade, replaced with the chase for effects, forced emotion and railroaded narrative.

The value of this book will grow in time. Visionaries recognize the significance of the present moment in the larger context of history, and Matt has been doing just that when it comes to the recent history of video games.

This book brings something apparently trivial at first but actually extremely valuable for gamers and developers alike. It lets you get into the minds of the pioneers in ways that more technical books or blog interviews just don't. Conflicts within teams, credit unduly taken... there's also a bit of flak for those that like that.

About the Author
Patrick Biltgen is the Technical Director, Analytics at Vencore. Previously, he was a a senior principal systems engineer supporting the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) and the senior mission engineer for BAE Systems' Intelligence Integration Directorate where he was the subject matter expert on activity-based intelligence (ABI) capabilities for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). He received his Ph. D, M.S, and his B.S. in aerospace engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Stephen Ryan is a senior program manager for autonomy research & development in Northrop Grumman Corporation's Aerospace Systems sector.  He was previously a decorated intelligence analyst with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), where he specialized in ABI and terrorism analysis, spending almost a year deployed to Afghanistan supporting counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations. He received his M.A. in security studies from Georgetown University and his B.A. in international affairs from The George Washington University.

Essential modern reference for advanced data analytics

While it's certainly a fantastic reference for the ABI practitioner, this book also happens to be a fantastic reference for any data analyst. There are several Chapters (especially in the middle of the book) that offer a superb overview of techniques that are applicable to big data, analysis, visualization, modeling, and prediction. I really appreciated the illustrative examples which are all easy to follow. This is a very well written book that makes an engaging read that's chock full of interesting historical references and clever insights.

Good initial exposure

My first read on this subject and I enjoyed it - plus I got it for free so that's super nice. A bit more care could be taken in the quality control/editing but minor stuff over all. The thing that sticks out most there is that the Conclusion is actually for an Options Trading eBook. I'd give it a 4.5 if I could and if it was cleaned up it'd be a 5. Enjoy. Jay

This is very over rated here. Mostly fluff, for example "you shouldn't make a toothbrush with a 3d printer as the brush would cost so much more than what is at the store." Thanks, but just for the record you can't make a toothbrush with a 3d printer, at least the brush part. This book DOES NOT teach you how to get rich with 3d printing. Numerous pages at the end are related to promoting his other books which really are scams.

While this book is meant for readers based on the business perspective of 3D printing, I think graphic designers and others up and coming and semi related to this field will find it enlightening. It's a passionate, enjoyable read about how to make it in the business without expensive equipment. It touches on the role of manufacturing, licensing, configurations of different printers, and case studies of markets. The only thing is that I wish there were some photos and visual demonstrations, but the words are key.
