Excellent 1977 NASB Text

This Study Bible contains the 1977 New American Standard Bible text, which is claimed to be more literal than the updated 1995 New American Standard Bible text. I bought this Bible primarily for the literalness of the 1977 NASB. I have only found a few instances of differences between the 1977 and 1995 so far, and none of these differences appear to affect interpretive meaning.
Ryrie's scholarly Bible textual notes are excellent, yet will likely be understandable for Bible readers of a variety of reading levels. He also offers concise and extremely informative systematic theology study materials in the appendix of the Bible. Each Bible book contains an outline, both preceding and throughout the individual books, which greatly assist in helping one to understand what is going on within the text. I have not found that the notes contained in this 1978 Study Bible differ from what I can access online in previews of the 2008 revision of this study Bible. I did notice one chart in the initial pages of the 2008 revision that was not contained in this 1978 publication.

A handy study bible at a reasonable price

I first encountered a Ryrie study Bible in a Bible study group many years ago, and never thought to get one for myself, until a radio preacher advised it recentlhy, suggesting we get one as 'a Christams gift to ourselves.' The study helps make this a very useful edition. The maps, the notes (especially) the cross references and commentary are very helpful. And the New American Standard version is quite readable. I ordered this copy from a used bookseller. It was in good shape, even though the pages were a bit browned. The text was printed in fairly good contrast and type size. I especially appreciate the red type--useful in quickly locating Jesus's sayings and parables. I also appreciate that the footnotes end at the bottom of the page (instead of going over to subsequent pages, causing a lot of flipping pages back and forth). This would be fixe star if the text were either larger or of better contrast, though this would enlarge the size of the book itself and included bookmark ribbons.
