Hammond and Brooks, both seasoned authors and speakers for Christian singles, use a traditional, faith-based approach to help discouraged women find the man of their dreams. Before a woman aims for marriage, they maintain, she needs to be a "whole" person; this wholeness comes from a strong relationship with God. Biblical quotes and shopping metaphors abound as they advise women on difficult relationship issues, such as avoiding mistreatment and manipulation, letting themselves be pursued rather than taking the lead and even getting in shape, if need be, to ensure they present themselves as healthy and attractive. Hammond and Brooks also touch on the tendency of some women to nag and complain; they urge them to focus on being encouragers, and to embrace their feminine role, which, they claim, has more power than women realize, and is strong enough to "turn a man's heart toward God." Bottom line? Finding true and lasting love takes time. If a woman wants to get married, she must be patient and wait on God, for "patience allows love... to become the preeminent force in the relationship," and God wants to protect her heart and make sure that love doesn't cost her self-esteem or her faith. Though this is the first book in Waterbrook's new line of nonfiction aimed at the Christian African-American market, Hammond's and Brooks's warm advice could appeal to a broader audience.

My go to book!

A friendship of six years ended when he chose another woman to be his girlfriend within four months of dating her. I was crushed. This book is incredible and has been helping me to understand myself better as well as taking me back to the scriptures to heal and become stronger in Christ. Who is my true love! This besides the bible will be my go to book. The questions at the end of each chapter are deep and thought provoking. Michelle and Joel out did themselves with writing this book. I give it 5 stars

Things that make you go Hmmmm

This was a good read. It opened my eyes to various things that I should consider in relationships, while reinforcing things that I have been taught over time, but need to put back into practice. The number one thing for me is allowing "Peace" to be my umpire, I truly believe in this and know that this is the right way.
I love the questions at the end of the chapters "Things that make you go Hmmm", because they really do make you think things over. The fact that it was written from a male and female prospective is an added plus. It's not a biased approach.
Most definitely would recommend this book to single women.

Very well written

This book was VERY well written and totally met me right where I was. As I turned each page, I could see myself and where I went wrong in past relationships. Their use of scriptures from the bible and other helpful analogies just helped to drive the messages home. Let me just say: these two KNOW what they are talking about. There wasn't a single thing they mentioned that was off target. Just about topic they covered, I could easily identify an example from my own life or that of other's lives that confirmed what they were saying. I highly recommend this book for a woman that wants to get a good foundation on the proper mindset, emotional state, and attitude that is most beneficial for her to engage in a healthy relationship with a man. The book will also show how having these 3 things will help you with discerning the various male relationships you can encounter.
