A Must Read For Anyone Interested in Historical Truth

This book is for an experienced and somewhat advanced reader because it calls for a love of and attention to detail that one is more apt to find among educated laypersons. The book details the history of the Yishuv, the Jewish presence and communities of the land of Israel throughout the last 3000 years of history. But it is an especially important survey during the 2000 years designated as the "diaspora." Most people, including otherwise informed persons like myself, tend to have, at best, an attenuated understanding of what the term "diaspora" really means. I thought it was important to note that the Jews were dispersed after 70 C.E. and then after the Bar Kochba revolt to all the lands of Europe and to a small degree to Asia. I did not know that there was a continuous stalwart and self-consciously enduring population of Jews living and worshipping in Palestine, and clinging with hope against all hope to the promise of God to restore Israel and to restore the Jewish people to their heritage of deliverance from their bondage in Egypt.
Thanks to Mr. Verlin whose zealous research and determined writing (the book is clearly written and is presented by a penetrating intellect). How did the Jewish people endure through through dhimmitude under the Muslims, and through the Crusades? It seems incredible. The miracle of their endurance seems to be the proper prelude to the miracle of the Zionist movement and the Balfour Declaration, and all that has followed since 1947. Miracle upon miracle orchestrated for 3000 years by a just, merciful, and good Almighty God!!
This book has ignited a passion for Israel that did not exist in my heart and mind prior to reading this book. I recommend it to anyone who wants to go beyond a mere political analysis of the Middle East relationship of Israel to the Goliath of the Arab world, but wants to look at the miraculous roots of Jewish continuity in the Holy Land and understand that God, not politics, is the author of Israel's existence and Jewish survival through the centuries. Mr. Verlin does not spend time discussing the relevant passages in tanakh about God's promises with respect to the land of Israel, but for me, the connection between the passionate history he has written and the spiritual dimension of that history were spontaneously and automatically connected.
